A Journey Through Time, Taste, and Tradition
Since 1706, Twinings has stood at the forefront of tea craftsmanship, blending heritage with innovation to create teas and infusions to delight people and better meet their evolving needs. From the cobbled streets of London to the vibrant markets of India, we’ve been perfecting our craft for more than 300 years and are committed to developing high-quality blends that taste great and make you feel great, that can be enjoyed by everyone on every occasion, enabling you to get the most from life every day.
Our mission is to make well-being enjoyable and accessible.
Twinings began as a dry tea and coffee shop founded by Thomas Twining in the heart of London’s Strand. With approximately 2,000 coffee houses in London offering an assortment of beverages including coffee, hot chocolate, rum, brandy, and arrack, Thomas was keen to stand out from the competition, so he introduced fine quality tea as a new offering. Tea was increasingly fashionable to drink and before long Thomas was selling more dry tea than wet. By 1717, Thomas Twining had acquired two adjacent houses, enabling him to convert one into a shop specifically for handcrafted and blended teas alongside the Coffee House.
Twinings’ unwavering commitment to quality has spanned centuries and is a principle we still adhere to today. We were also privileged to have first been honoured with a Royal Warrant in 1837 by Queen Victoria, after appointing Twinings as a supplier of tea to her household, and we have supplied every successive British Monarch since.
Our foray into India, a nation deeply rooted in tea culture, was not just an expansion; it was a thoughtful conversation between heritage and local sensibilities. Entering the Indian market in the early 2000s, Twinings sought to introduce a new perspective to the tea ritual. Rather than competing with the everyday cup, we aspired to elevate it, enabling consumers to enjoy great-tasting teas and infusions from around the globe at their own table.
